Mr H. Rood of the Dorothy Cake Shop in Cuba Street, shows some of the continental Easter novelties which he has been making in his shop for the past 12 years. Easter is their busiest time of the year and his display of Easter goodies, including meringue novelties, rabbits, chickens and eggs in baskets, alone and decorated in every imaginable way, will remind many European people of home, he says. Only dark chocolate is used, and is imported, as are the moulds. "We can't make enough of these items," Mr Rood said. Chocolate is very temperamental and has to be heated to an exact temperature to come out of the moulds. The decorations are applied by hand, and each item is wrapped. For a really individual Easter gift Mr Rood will put anything a customer wants (within reason) inside a chocolate egg.
