Renée Louise Charlton was a Wellington restaurateur known as Madame Louise. She was the founder of Le Normandie restaurant.
Renée Charlton was born in 1914 in Normandy, France.
She began her restaurant career at Montmartre restaurant in Molesworth street before moving to the Commercial Travellers Club and the Bart COx's Cafe du Boulevard in Victoria Street. After a short return to the CTC she established Le Normandie restaurant in Cuba Street in 1961.
She also ran Caprice in Oriental Bay with her niece Christiane White as manager.
She retired in 1973, selling Le Normandie to Drago Kovac.
Madame Louise died on October 24th 1994 in Wellington, survived by her husband Roy Charlton.
